The Details
(where the geek boasts about his computer)
Wabyn is a generic PC clone computer, lovingly hand-crafted by the fine folks at
Code II Computers, with:
- 866 MHz Pentium III
- 758 MB RAM
- 260 GB disk space
- A Panasonic CD/CD-R/CD-RW drive
- A Pioneer DVD drive
- D-Link DFE530Tx ethernet card
- Matrox G400 dual-head video card (although there's only one monitor attached)
- Soundblaster PCI128
- Some nice speakers that the salesperson from my last computer
told me were really good and worth paying lots extra for, and this time I didn't replace.
- ADI MicroScan 19" monitor (this thing is really thin, for a CRT-based monitor. It replaces
a 17" monitor, but it is about 3" shorter, giving me a full 3" more desk space!)
- Debian GNU/Linux (Debian 3.13.13.1
- Apache web server 2.x
When I got it, it was impressive for the top-of-the-line specs. Now I'm
impressed by the fact that it's more than 5 years old, and I have no
need or desire to upgrade it. I'd hate to see the latest Microsoft OS
try to run on a 5 year old computer.
