Louisiana (or maybe it's the river, though I can't quite imagine how) is the second largest producer of sugar in the world, lagging just behind Brazil.
While we're on the subject of being second best, New Orleans' Mardi Gras festival is world-famous in North America, and second only to the celebration in Rio de Janeiro.
